Update - 3/4/12: With some Briard supervision, the whelping box is ready! Photos here ->
First, some notes about this breeding in general.
Because we breed infrequently and with great care, we often gravitate towards dogs that in type and pedigree offer some of the best the world has to offer. Within the pedigree of both Sire and Dam, you will find Champions and Rassemblement Select dogs from the United States, Canada, France, Belgium, Italy, and Australia. Dogs in this pedigree come from well respected kennels with many generations of champions - from US Kennels such as Bejaune Briards, Bigtree Briards, and Lutece Briards, and European Kennels such as La Tour St. Genin, Briards du Clos des Cédres, Briards del bel Pastur, and the Cacharel Kennel of Australia. Eiledon Briards is an AKC Breeder of Merit.
Regardless of whether a dog is going to be predominantly a family dog, a performance dog, or a conformation show dog, we feel that the same qualities are common to a great Briard: soundness of body, soundness of mind, and a good start in our home environment.
Sire: Eiledon's Faustus
Faustus is a wonderful, sweet, natural-eared, black boy born into our home just two years ago January 15th.
Faustus has both his majors for his Championship with very limited showing, awaiting only the last few points for his title. He has gathered Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex wins over finished champions. Perhaps more important than any of his accomplishments inside the show ring, is the fan club he has gathered outside the ring. As a class dog, he has a following among other Briarders - even owners of his competition will often come visit "that wonderful boy".
Admittedly, Faustus' title of "Mr. Personality" is the effect of both nature and nurture. His parents, Ch. Sagi Bailywick Tintangel's Pride, RA, HIC, TT, CGC and Eiledon's Teeha de Bejaune, we chose to breed not for their beauty alone, but for the soundness of both dog's temperaments. Several of Fautus' littermates very successfully mind young children in their spare time.
Faustus is OFA Preliminary Good, cSNB genetically Clear, Eye Certification Normal December 2011.
Dam: Ch. Bigtree's Banyon d'Eiledon (Banyon)
Banyon exhibits the rarely found, quicksilver gait called for in the AKC standard. Another outstanding quality is her beautiful, coarse Briard coat, which makes her coat care a breeze. She represents the fourth generation of Champions owned and bred in our home. French and German breed experts rated her as Pre-Select at the 2008 Rassemblement. Her OFA Good Hip Rating, obtained at six years of age, demonstrates her enduring soundness. She is a compact girl, presenting an image of both elegance and breed type.
As per the breed standard, Banyon is somewhat independent of thought. She is highly dedicated to family and home. Banyon lives successfully and peacefully in our home with four other intact females and her father Ch. Eiledon's Tison de Lindeau.
Banyon is OFA Good, genetically CSNB Clear, and 2011 CERF Normal.
